Use the Dewey Decimal System

The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system is the world's most widely used method used to organize library collections. The Stillwater Public Library uses DDC for our nonfiction materials. All fiction materials are organized in alphabetical order by the author's last name. The DDC organizes information into 10 broad areas that then get further broken down into smaller topics. Each topic is assigned a number, known as a "call number." A brief description of some of the topics you can find in each section is listed below.

  • UFOs and Unexplained Phenomenon
  • Computers and the Internet
  • Almanacs and Fact Books
  • Libraries, Museums, Journalism, Newspapers
