Community Development Block Grant

The City of Stillwater is seeking feedback from the public on how to distribute federal funding it should receive for the benefit of individuals with low to moderate incomes.

Financing for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) projects is in part by funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, which is managed by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce.

The amount of the CDBG grant is decided annually and a 1:1 match is required by the City of Stillwater. Projects and funding are approved by the Stillwater City Council and administered by the City of Stillwater.

Meeting Schedule

• The first meeting is Tuesday, February 28, from 11:30 am to 1 pm at the City of Stillwater Municipal Building, 723 S. Lewis St., Room 1112B.
• The second meeting is Thursday, March 16, from 11:30 am to 1 pm at the City of Stillwater Community Center, 315 W. 8th Avenue, Room 100.

CDBG typically funds the following projects and activities:

• Economic development
• Fire protection
• Housing demolition
• Gas and electrical system improvements
• Park and playground equipment
• Public facilities such as community centers, museums or libraries
• Senior citizen centers
• Stormwater drainage improvements
• Streets
• Water and wastewater system improvements

The primary goal of the CDBG program on a national level is to improve communities by offering suitable living conditions and decent housing.

Recent CDBG projects Include:

• 2021: 12th Street and Duncan drainage improvements
• 2018: New all-inclusive playground addition to Strickland Park.
• 2017: Expansion of skate park at Strickland Park.
• 2016: ADA-compliant sidewalks, crosswalks and bus stops along Airport Road from Wings of Hope Family Crisis Services.
• 2015: Leigh and Hall drainage channel improvements phase two, and Tucker Addition, Fern, Chester and Hartford water line replacements.
• 2014: Leigh and Hall drainage channel restoration and improvements phase one.
• 2013: Stormwater drainage improvements in the area along 19th Avenue and Sangre Road and Stonegate Avenue and Raintree Drive.
• 2012: Sewer line replacement between 4th and 6th avenues along Pine, Gray, Stanley and Blakely streets.
• 2011: Waterline replacement in the area of Doty, Arrington and Berry streets and 3rd Avenue.
